Judge James Sawyer rules brush pickers work on contract (Nov 2002)
Vendors who pick and sell floral greens to packing houses are independent contractors, not employees. Mason County Superior Court Judge James Sawyer issued a summary judgment Monday in favor of six floral-greens companies that filed suit a year ago to stop the Washington Department of Labor and Industries from forcing them to pay workers' compensation premiums for brush pickers. (11/07/2002)
