Judge James Sawyer rules brush pickers work on contract (Nov 2002) Vendors who pick and sell floral greens to packing houses are independent contractors, not employees. Mason County Superior Court Judge James Sawyer issued a summary judgment Monday in favor of six floral-greens companies that filed suit a year ago to stop the Washington Department of Labor and Industries from forcing them to pay workers' compensation premiums for brush pickers. Farm Bureau policy books now available Copies of the 2008 Washington Farm Bureau Policy Book and the 2008 American Farm Bureau Federation Policy Book are now available. Farm Bureau members can receive a printed or electronic copy of the policy books by contacting Gary Joiner, WFB director of Organization, at 1-800-331-3276.
